Maton_Custom_Shop_000_Model_Acoustic_Rosewood_Back_and_Sides_Sunburst_45637NEW - A traditional body with Indian Rosewood back and sides. A favourite of Eric Johnson, the C.S Classic is one of the finest guitars ever to come out of the Maton Custom Shop. The CS Classic is Maton Masterbuilder Andy Allen’s Custom Shop take on an Acoustic Guitar Standard. The 000 or OM (Orchestra Model) body shape has been an icon for all acoustic guitar makers for decades now.

Utilizing the timbers that are most recognized in the style, Andy Allen developed the CS Classic with a mix of AAA Grade European Spruce and Indian Rosewood for the back and sides. After extensive testing tonally and geometrically he settled upon a forward shifted X brace pattern to bring the rich bottom end from the guitar whilst maintaining an earthy mid-range and that classic Maton Glassy top register. It is not only the balance of tonality That Andy Allen is proud of, but the projection, clarity, and volume that this shape captures so well. It truly is a classic shape.

Andy Allen realized after prototyping, research, and development why so many incredible guitar players choose this amazing guitar to help realize their voice. It is not just the comfort of this shape for hours of practice and performance but the ability to pick, strum and play finger style on this shape means it becomes part of who you are as a musician.

About The Maton Custom Shop

Maton’s Custom Shop provides you with the ultimate personal guitar experience. As the customer, you are invited to specify body shape, color, and decorative inlays and be involved in the selection of premium tone woods.

The Maton Custom Shop experience provides you with the opportunity to have a say in the dynamics of the desired sound speaking face-to-face with the craftsman who will build the guitar for you.

You can be guaranteed that Maton will build a guitar that you can truthfully say is unique, a one-off.

All timbers selected for Custom Shop guitars are hand picked from Maton’s vast stocks and then thoroughly checked for structural integrity. This ensures that only top quality materials find their way into a Custom Shop guitar. The timber’s visual appeal and tonal quality also form an important part of the selection process. All the chosen components are then individually ‘voiced’ to ensure they can produce maximum acoustic performance. This is done by ‘tap testing’ and flexing each piece to determine maximum strength and minimum weight, the recipe for great tone. It is a process that requires deep experience and construction knowledge and can only be done by an extremely skilled craftsman.

As the head of Maton’s Custom Shop,  Andy Allen has the ability to build a guitar that will produce the sound that the customer has ordered and wants to hear. The construction of a Custom Shop guitar is performed by a single, skilled luthier and this ensures every detail mirrors precisely the customer’s requirements. It also ensures the look as well as the sound matches the buyer’s dream. Each operation is done by hand, the way Maton Guitars have been built since 1946, with no deadline. The process will take however long is required to meet the customer’s expectations. A masterpiece cannot be rushed!

Maton_SRS808c_Acoustic_Electric_Guitar_Blackwood_Solid_Road_Series_748659NEW - A forward shifting of the X braces and the shifting of scallop peaks to nodal points around the soundboard help to enhance the vibration of the top. The shifting of the X braces also allowed the inclusion of a second, parallel tone bar which allows the scalloping of both tone bars, and spreads the load while reducing mass. Adjusted bracing heights as well as a locked15 foot radius for the arch of the back, gave us the plate resonance separation we were looking for between top and back.

Maton now has the full, open, lower frequency response players were looking for as well as a crisp, well defined treble response. The new 808 series sounds a whole lot bigger than a small bodied guitar should. We were hoping the end of this journey would produce a guitar that amazes the player at first strum, then continues to impress as each aspect of the sound of the guitar meets and surpasses the player’s expectation.
