Supero_Amps_Black_Magik_Big_BlackMagik_Amplifier_1NEW - The Supro 1605R Reverb amplifier is a 5-Watt, 1 x 8 combo amp with tube-driven spring reverb. This ultra-compact and gig-ready amplifier provides independent gain and master volume controls, along with a 2-band EQ and three tube-driven line-outputs optimized for feeding another guitar amplifier or recording console. The trio of line outputs is driven by the preamp tubes—before the master volume—allowing the player to tame the on-board speaker down from gig volume to be used as a bedroom rig, as well as an all-tube outboard gain/reverb effect unit and direct recording preamp.

The WET output provides 100% wet reverb signal; the DRY output provides 100% dry signal from the preamp; and the MIX output carries a blend of dry and reverb signals that can be attenuated by a variable level control on the MIX output. When the WET output is used, the reverb signal is removed from the onboard speaker output, allowing the player to pass the reverb sound along to another amplifier while still hearing the gain from the 1605R’s tube preamp in the onboard 8” speaker. When the DRY output is used, the unaffected sound of the guitar is removed from the onboard speaker output, allowing the player to pass the gained up dry sound along to another amplifier while still hearing the reverb effect in the onboard 8” speaker.

In order to capture the sound of the vintage Jensen speaker found in the original Supro amps of the early 1960s, the 1605R Reverb model features a custom-made 8” speaker that was designed by Eminence and Supro with help from Iowa State University, where we were able to laser scan and recreate the speaker cone from a “golden sample” of a Jensen speaker from our favorite vintage Supro amplifier.

Sized to fit perfectly underneath the Black Magick 1 x 12 combo, the 1790 is a partially open-back, vintage-style 1 x 12 extension cabinet loaded with Supro BD12 driver to match the on-board speaker in the Black Magick combo for even more mid-range punch and stage volume. With the 1 x 12” extension cabinet connected along with the combo’s 12” internal speaker, the Supro Black Magick amplifier runs down at 4-ohms, developing maximum power from its Class-A output section. Supero_Amps_Black_Magik_Small_BlackMagik_Amplifier_1NEW - The Black Magick Reverb amplifier adds artist-requested features to the award-winning recreation of the vintage Supro amp loaned by Jimmy Page to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum. Developed in collaboration with Lenny Kravitz, the Black Magick Reverb captures the mid-range grind and signature sound of the original model—while adding all-tube reverb, 2-band EQ and a master volume knob for maximum flexibility. The amp is available as an all-tube head or in a 1×12 combo format.

Much like the original Black Magick, the reverb version features two independent preamp channels that can be linked together using the 1&2 input jack to obtain the fattest possible tone. Additional gain has been added to both preamp channels in the Black Magick Reverb, while the dual-gang, single-knob tone control from the non-reverb model has been reconfigured with separate treble and bass knobs for a wider range of possible sounds. The Black Magick Reverb’s 6-spring reverb pan is driven by both channels and then summed with the dry signal just before the master volume control.

An updated, tube-based LFO circuit provides bias-modulated output tube tremolo with double the speed range of the original Black Magick. The output stage of the Black Magick Reverb is based on the same Class-A power amp as the non-reverb model, utilizing a matched pair of 6973 tubes and a custom-made Supro output transformer with 16-ohm, 8-ohm and 4-ohm output options. The combo version of the Black Magick Reverb features the same, custom-designed 12″ BD12 speaker found in the original Black Magick combo. Standalone 1×12 and 1×15 extension cabinets can be used with both the head and combo versions for a huge stage sound and the undeniable rock & roll flair of Supro’s Black Rhino Hide tolex.

“All the tones I need in one amp. Now with classic spring reverb.” – Lenny Kravitz

VOX_Vox_50th_Anniversary_AC15_AC_15_Amp_Amplifier_1NEW - The 60th Anniversary AC15 is a faithful recreation of a true landmark amplifier in VOX’s rich history, the EF86 equipped AC15 from 1957. The ever-evolving AC15 underwent three revisions in 1957, with the last being represented in our 60th Anniversary AC15. Much of what players would come to know and love about VOX was established in 1957, including the distinct split-baffle design & iconic diamond cloth and, most significantly, the renowned chiming tone that would soon define an entire genre of music.

Just like the amps of 1957, the 60th Anniversary AC15 features two distinct channels. Channel I, or Normal, offers the same rich, articulate tube tone that established the AC15 as a must-have amplifier for guitarists. Channel II, or Vib-Trem, provides players with some of the most elusive guitar tones in recorded history, the hypnotic and unmistakable vibrato of a vintage VOX.

A History of Zemaitis

Craftsman & Pioneer

tony_zemaitisAntanus Casimere Zemaitis, or Tony, was born in London, England in 1935. As a child he was constantly designing and building – everything from model flying airplanes to handmade bicycles. His creative talents first led him to cabinetry where he learned invaluable skills in working with wood, design and decoration.

In the 1950s, as a young guitar player, Tony was unsatisfied with the available guitars of the times. So taking cues from a friend's classical guitar, he decided to build his own - the first Zemaitis guitar! From then on, it was a lifelong quest to hone his craft and experiment with new designs and materials in order to improve every guitar he made – a characteristic that would follow him throughout his life.

The Early Years

His creations first found attention on the London blues and folk scene where he performed alongside players like Davey Graham, Long John Baldry and Spencer Davis – all who fell in love with the great sound and playability of Zemaitis guitars.

Innovation

Always working to improve his designs, he hit on a major guitar innovation with the now famous Zemaitis Metal Front™. The original idea was to shield the guitar and reduce hum. The first was made for Tony McPhee of the Groundhogs and the idea was successful in more ways than one. Not only did it reduce noise, but the highly decorative, individually hand-engraved pieces became a signature piece of art favored by rock's elite.

Next, he introduced the beautiful Zemaitis Pearl Front™ guitars—with an exquisitely inlayed front with a mosaic of abalone that twinkled and changed color in the light. These top of the line guitars soon became another signature model.

Worldwide Acclaim

Screen Shot 2016-08-16 at 4.51.50 PMBy the 1980s, his reputation for workmanship, styling, playability and tonal quality had made Tony Zemaitis a living legend. While highly coveted by collectors, Tony didn't restrict his customers to just the rich and famous and always remained true to his ideals. Though he worked primarily by himself, producing just a handful of guitars every year, Tony was just as happy to work with enthusiastic amateur guitarists and even sold 'Student' grade models to those with lower budgets.

No matter what grade of guitar he made though, he always produced a great playing and sounding guitar. He always used quality materials and traditional luthier techniques such as 3-piece necks and 3-piece bodies for strength and stability and only ever made glued-neck construction to ensure the best possible sound.

It was the combination of quality, craftsmanship, innovation and determination that won this British guitar maker fans from all over the world. After 40 years of handcrafting fine guitars and having virtually created the 'boutique guitar' Tony retired in 2000. He passed away on August 17, 2002

Carrying on the tradition

When he retired, Greco began discussions with Tony about the best way to pass on his craft to the next generation, and to continue the Zemaitis name and its reputation for quality and craftsmanship.

With the support of Tony’s wife and son, Ann and Tony Zemaitis, Jr., Greco has been able to make the rebirth of Zemaitis guitars a reality. They are honored to bear the Zemaitis torch and to pass along the craft and spirit of Tony Zemaitis to future generations. Carefully studying Tony’s original drawings, specifications, and guitars, Greco's master craftsmen and luthiers are faithfully reproducing Zemaitis instruments with the same superior quality as those crafted by the man himself.

Teaming Up with Master Engraver Danny O’Brien

A big part of carrying on the Zemaitis tradition can be attributed to the services of Danny O'Brien, the master engraver who worked with Tony Zemaitis for many years. Danny’s tremendous skills and artistry have helped Greco ensure the continued authenticity and craftsmanship of this endeavor.

Danny O’Brien designs the unique and beautiful engravings for Zemaitis Metal Front™ guitars and all the other Zemaitis Guitar metal components, including the badge, truss rod cover, pickup mount rings, tailpiece, jackplate, and the rear plate. The work is then completed by hand by our team of shotgun engravers, schooled in the same techniques as Danny.

Danny's new designs are helping carry out the history started by Tony Zemaitis. Greco and Fab Gear welcome you to the next chapter in Zemaitis guitars.
